Our History
A MISSION
March 17, 1948, D. B. Eskew, chairman of the Missions Committee at First Baptist, proposed that a mission be started at 1950 Thomasville Road.
A CHURCH
March 16, 1952, Thomasville Road came into being as a fully constituted church.
TRBC RELOCATES
Under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth Holland, TRBC relocated to a nine acre plus site near I-10, the present location. The church actually moved to this sight September 10, 1978.
BILLY CRUCE
Pastor Billy Cruce came to TRBC as pastor in November 1983. The church entered "Steps of Faith," a financial building campaign. Under his leadership, a fresh, purpose-based vision was embraced.
NEW WORSHIP CENTER
On April 30, 1989, services were held in our present worship center for the first time.
NEW EDUCATION SPACE
In subsequent years, the old worship center was converted to a two story building, the first floor becoming our present Fellowship Hall. In 1996, the old fellowship hall was renovated into additional Preschool and Children’s space. In 1998, part of the upstairs portico of the worship center was closed off to create a second floor and provide additional classroom space.
AN INTERIM TIME
Pastor Cruce retired in January 2002 and was our Pastor Emeritus until his death in 2010. Dr. R.C. Hammack agreed to serve as interim pastor while our pastor search committee sought the man that God would have lead us into the future.
CONTINUING THE JOURNEY...
In March, 2002, TRBC voted unanimously to build a multi-purpose building and 3-story Education Building. A Master Site Plan was adopted awaiting the changes and vision of a new pastor.
March 15, 2002, TRBC celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special service and fellowship time, serving Sonny's Barbeque to over 1000 people.
CURTIS CLARK
June 2, 2002, the congregation voted to call Pastor Curtis Clark, and he began his ministry at TRBC July 14, 2002.
Our church continued its “Journey of Faith” and obediently pursued the next phase of much needed expansion for TRBC. In 2005, the 15,000-square-foot Student/Multi-purpose building was completed. We continued “Forward in Faith” in June, 2007, completing the 40,000-square-foot Preschool/Children’s building and 5,800-square-foot Music Suite in January 2009. And, consequently, TRBC launched the largest capital campaign ever seen in the history of Thomasville Road Baptist Church. God and our TRBC family have been faithful to meet their pledges and fulfill their part of our God-given vision.
Four areas previously occupied by Preschool, Children and offices were renovated in 2009 providing 7,000 square feet of space for administration, new youth and adult classrooms and an expanded area for college ministry.
The buildings are built, but our journey is by no means complete. We must continue on and look ahead to fulfilling God’s vision for TRBC. We desire to expand our territory for Him and grow—not only physically but in our impact on the city of Tallahassee. As we continue this journey of faith, we are expecting great things and we will continue to give God the glory for all He has done and will do!
