Helping People Find and Follow Jesus

Our MISSION: Helping People Find and Follow Jesus

It is our desire to guide, encourage and serve our community, our country and our world for the purpose of showing others the love and truth of Jesus Christ while teaching them how to follow him in every aspect of their lives.

“12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,” Ephesians 4:12-13

Our PURPOSE:

The church is God’s chosen instrument for His glory and the salvation of the world.  We find this purpose in two key scriptures within God’s Word.

The Great Commandment: “’Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?’  And he [Jesus] said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.’” Matt. 22:36-40 (ESV)

The Great Commission: “Jesus said, ‘Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  Matt. 28:19-20 (ESV)

Drawing from these two scriptures, Thomasville Road Baptist Church is purposed:

  • To “Love the Lord your God…” - WORSHIP by giving God glory and priority in our lives;

  • To “Love your neighbor as yourself” - SERVE in the local church and our communities through ministry;

  • To “Go…and make disciples of all nations” through EVANGELISM, sharing Christ with our neighbors and our world;

  • To “Baptize...” - to connect with other Christ-followers through FELLOWSHIP; and

  • To “Teach them...” - teaching them how to follow Jesus Christ in every aspect of their lives through personal and relational DISCIPLESHIP.

“I am with you always” reminds us that none of this can be accomplished without the power of Christ.

Our purposes inform and shape our disciple-making strategy, which is described below.

Our STRATEGY: How we accomplish our purpose

“Go therefore and make disciples.” Matthew 28:19 (ESV)

“42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47

This is a description of how the first followers of Christ created the first church based on these purposes.  It is important to note that they aligned these purposes with their culture and context, as should all churches.  Every church, in every age while holding true to these purposes, will look a little different than other churches in different cultures and contexts.

At Thomasville Road Baptist Church, we desire to live out these purposes to WORSHIP, to SERVE, to EVANGELIZE, to FELLOWSHIP and to DISCIPLE in step with our mission to HELP PEOPLE FIND and FOLLOW JESUS. This involves providing intentional entry points in peoples’ lives to help give glory to God with their words and lives in WORSHIP.  To equip them to SERVE others in our communities and our church.  To pray for, expect and share the good news of Jesus Christ as opportunity is given through EVANGELISM. To help connect with other followers of Christ through small groups, living and doing life together in FELLOWSHIP. To provide sound teaching, instruction and opportunity for application of God’s Word so that they might grow in their faith and purpose through DISCIPLESHIP.  This is not an end goal, but preparation for a lifelong pursuit of God and the sharing of that pursuit with others.

The ultimate goal of this alignment of our mission and our purpose is that we will see our mission of HELPING PEOPLE FIND and FOLLOW JESUS become fulfilled in the lives of individuals and across the globe.
