Reading God's Word. Growing Together.
From 2014 through 2017, we want to challenge and encourage the whole church to thoughtfully read through the Bible and memorize 80 scripture verses.
The Bible is God's Word and essential to the transformation of a follower of Christ. As we read, reflect, struggle with, and put into our hearts God's Word, we will see our lives transformed to impact our world. Reading the Bible as a whole allows us to have a complete picture of God's love and redemptive plan for His creation. This year we want to look at memorizing scripture through systematic theology. That sounds intimidating but it simply means studying the doctrines of our faith in an orderly, rational, and coherent manner. It takes the topics of Christianity (e.g. God, Man, Sin, Jesus) and attempts to summarize them and put them in order. Theology is the study of the science of God. We seek to understand God and His creation, particularly us and our condition, and God’s redemptive working in relationship to us. It asks the question: What does the Bible teach us?
Easy! In 2014, we memorized 20 verses and read 14 books. In 2015, 20 verses and 15 books. In 2016, 20 verses and 16 books. In 2017, 20 verses and 17 books. We encourage you to memorize 2 verses each month, February - November, and to read the plan as a church body, using the following questions as we go to really grasp God's truth.
We will be using the English Standard Version (ESV) Bible for all print, digital media and congregational recital.
