At Home

By: Linda Cox Hicks,  December 23, 2016

I began attending Thomasville Road Baptist Church in 2010 and immediately felt “at home” with a group of loving people.  Sunday Worship Service and Bible Study, as well as, Lifeline on Wednesday evenings soon became very special times, and my understanding of God’s word was greatly enriched. I also joined the Young At Heart (YAH) Choir. Weekly practices and monthly visits to nursing homes and other retirement facilities afforded me the opportunity to be a part of a group that praised our Lord and shared His love through song.  Monthly ELITE luncheons with interesting programs always provided additional times for fellowship with my TRBC friends. Friendships that have developed as a result of these times together are some of my dearest treasures.  The love and support from these friends has been an encouragement for me during these past few months, since the death of my husband.

Last spring my husband and I, along with other TRBC ELITE members, attended Lake Yale’s Senior Fest.  Lake Yale with all of its natural beauty provided the perfect setting for a great opportunity to participate in Christian fellowship during worship, workshops and entertainment times. I am looking forward to attending the 2017 Lake Yale Senior Fest in April.

In the fall of this year I participated in two Sunday afternoon studies sponsored by ELITE: Experiencing God and From Heaven’s View.  Each of these small group sessions helped me grow into a deeper relationship with God.

How exciting it is to prepare for Christmas with followers of Christ at Thomasville Road Baptist Church! The music ministry especially speaks to me. We are alive with praise and song throughout the year, however, it seems that during this time there is an added air of anticipation. Our Christmas Eve service provides a time to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. The joy expressed through songs and the reading of the Christmas story always warms my heart.  Singing “Silent Night” and candles being lit throughout the worship center is an amazing experience.

It is a blessing to be with dedicated Christians at TRBC who are seeking a closer walk with God.  Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13: 34, 35)
