One More Child

By: ChrisAnne Shultz,  November 10, 2017

TRBC members, ChrisAnne and Arnold Shultz, serve as Florida Baptist Chlidren's Home cottage parents. They minister to hurting children in a group home setting by providing a safe and positive living environment while meeting their physical and spiritual needs in practical ways. Today ChrisAnne shares how they've seen our TRBC family help these FBCH children and their ministry.  This Sunday our church has another opportunity to fill the FBCH pantries with staple items like pasta, peanut butter, snacks, cereal and pancake mixes that they will use throughout the year.  Be sure to bring your grocery bag full of items and place them in front of your parking spot this Sunday morning.

“For just as the body is one and has many members,
and all the members of the body, though many, are one body,
so it is with Christ.”
1 Corinthians 12:14

As a houseparent at Carlton Cottage of Florida Baptist Children’s Home, we get to witness firsthand the body of Christ at work in the lives of the foster children living here, and often those efforts come directly from the members of TRBC.

Here are just a few of the ways we've been blessed by the TRBC family:

  • preparing, delivering, and sharing meals with us and the kids
  • becoming honorary “grandparents” to our kids and loving them in a way only grandparents can
  • purchasing and presenting our kids with their entire school supply list plus a few items
  • cutting and trimming trees and more yard work than I can list
  • sponsorship of our family meal on Wednesday nights
  • bringing all the supplies to make, bake and decorate Christmas cookies with our kids
  • pumpkin carving and decorating
  • random “gifts” for us to spoil the kids with
  • paper goods donations (toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, napkins, etc)
  • kind words of encouragement to Arnold and I
  • consistent prayers for us and our kids
  • sponsorship of our kids for camps and other church events
  • picking up and bringing home our kids from events when we cannot
  • serving during our Christmas Open House (6-8pm on December 8 this year)
  • repainting rooms and outdoor furniture
  • tutoring
  • taking our kids fishing and to other outdoor activities
  • providing meals for our extra houseguests from the Jacksonville cottages during the recent hurricane
  • teaching our kids in small group Bible study classes, Children's Choirs, GAs, RAs, VBS, and Music Camp

I apologize in advance that I am sure I left something off this list.  The TRBC family is so generous and creative that it can be hard to keep up with all the amazing ways we are joined in ministry. We are blessed to be the front lines of ministry to these great kids.  But, we can only do what we do because of the numerous others that come along side us.  It really is the entire church family of TRBC that makes our ministry possible.  Without each of you, we would not be effective reaching out to our kids with the message and love of Christ.  Your efforts free us to spend more time and energy hands on with the kids.

Would like to join us in ministry?  We would love to have you!  Please let Arnold or I know your heart is leading you to partner with us.  Whether you have an idea of how you want to minister or not, there is a place for you in the Carlton Cottage family.  You can email us at carlton@fbchomes.org to let us know.  If you are praying for us and our kids, we would love to know that too; please send us an email to let us know.
