At Thomasville Road Baptist Church, we provide a Parent-Child Dedication Service twice a year (spring and fall). The Parent-Child Dedication is a time for the church and new parents to commemorate the birth or adoption of a child in a worship service. We call this a “Parent-Child Dedication” because we are not just dedicating the children. This is an opportunity for you as parents to come before the church family and make a commitment to God by agreeing to raise your child by Christian principles. We use the term “dedication” because this is not a christening or baptism. We believe baptism is an act of obedience and witness after one becomes a follower of Christ.
We believe that parents are the primary faith influencers in their child’s life, but TRBC also believes parents are not in this alone. We, as a church, want to partner with parents to equip and provide you with resources and support you as you lead your family. It is also the desire of our entire faith family to pray for and shepherd families and their children.
To participate in the Parent-Child Dedication, at least one parent must be a Christ Follower and TRBC member, and both parents must attend the First Steps to Faith Class. This 2-hour class is offered the week prior to the dedication service. On the day of the actual dedication service, we will have a luncheon at 12:15 p.m. for parents to invite close friends and family members to join us in commemorating this special time in the life of this family. We ask parents to limit their guests to no more than 6.
The next Parent-Child Dedication will be Sunday, October 15, 2017, in both the 9:15 and 10:45 am worship services. The next First Steps to Faith class will be Sunday, October 8, 5-6 pm, and is a requirement for participation in the Parent-Child Dedication service.
