J.R. Hite

J. R. Hite joined the TRBC Counseling Center ministry as Pastoral Counselor in September of 2010. Though his training has included some clinical education, his primary preparation for counseling was gained through many years of pastoral ministry beginning in 1966 as a youth pastor while in college and continuing while completing his MDiv degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX.

Over the following years in pastoral ministry, many came to him for counseling to help resolve issues such as marital strife, relational conflicts, various addictions, brokenness from infidelity, parenting issues, grief over varied losses, and employment problems. His counseling endeavors continued as he worked alongside Dr. Charlie Bell, Director of Counseling at First Baptist Church in Orlando. There he also served as Minister to Young and Median Adults. Later his commitment to Pastoral Counseling became more definite when he joined the Counseling staff of Focus on the Family in Colorado as Chaplain to staff and Pastoral Counselor to thousands of people who wrote Dr. James Dobson or called for help in dealing with every imaginable life challenge. This escalated in the days following our national crisis of 09/11/2001. During the 18 years he served at Focus, the Counseling staff received periodic Continued Education led by well-known Christian professional counselors.

His training under John Regier, former pastor and founder of Caring for the Heart Ministries, helped J. R. develop a greater compassion for people in pain. More importantly, he gained a  better understanding of how to help individuals and couples experience the abundant life and freedom the Lord Jesus offers to people of faith (John 8:36, 10:10b). This is more difficult for some, but possible for all. Resolution of past/present issues, coupled with resolve to surrender life to Him in faith, intentionally identified with Christ’s life (John 15:7), transforms life (II Cor. 5:17).
