What We Believe

What We Believe

Thomasville Road is a church under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and are committed to adherence to the Christian faith as defined in the Bible. These doctrines shape the way we are led, our ministries, conduct, and direction of our church. For our full doctrinal
statement, check out the
Baptist Faith and Message.

We believe that the Bible is the fully inspired and without error in its original form authoritative Word of God. It is sufficient for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. All scripture was written by man as inspired by the Holy Spirit and points to Jesus Christ and guides our
faith and practice.

Scripture References: 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21

We believe in one God, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each is fully God, co-eternal and co-equal. God the Father is the source of all creation. Jesus Christ, the Son, is fully God and fully man, who lived, died, and rose again for our salvation. The Holy Spirit convicts, regenerates, empowers, and guides believers.

Scripture References: Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14

We believe that all people are created by God in the image of God. That He created them male and female as He saw fit. Therefore, our gender is assigned by God at birth. We believe mankind has fallen into sin through the disobedience of Adam and Eve and as a result, humanity is separated from God and in need of redemption. Sin affects every part of our lives, and apart from God’s grace, there is no hope for salvation.

Scripture References: Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:1-3

We believe salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. It is a gift from God, not earned by works. Through repentance and faith, we are forgiven, justified, regenerated, and adopted into God’s family. Christ’s death and resurrection secure eternal life for all who trust in Him.

Scripture References: Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10

We believe the church is the body of Christ, composed of believers who are called to worship, fellowship, teach, serve, and share the gospel. The local church is autonomous, organized under Christ as Head, and tasked with making disciples of all nations.

Scripture References: Ephesians 1:22-23; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:42-47

We believe that God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of society. That marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman, designed to reflect Christ’s relationship with the church. Parents are responsible for nurturing, training, and teaching their children in the knowledge of God. We believe God assigns each person their gender, male or female at birth. We believe in the sanctity of life, that life begins at the moment of conception in the womb, and therefore the willful termination of pregnancy is sin.

Scripture References: Genesis 2:24; Ephesians 5:22-33; Deuteronomy 6:6-7

We practice two ordinances given by Christ as symbolic acts of obedience and remembrance:
  • Baptism is an act of obedience as an outward expression of an inward faith, symbolizing a believer’s identification with Christ in His death, burial,
      and resurrection.
  • Lord’s Supper (Communion) is an act of obedience in the participation of memorial of Christ’s death and a celebration of His ongoing presence, meant to unite believers in remembrance and anticipation of His return.

Scripture References: Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

We believe in the visible and personal return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, and the final judgment. The righteous will receive eternal life, and the unrighteous will face eternal suffering and separation from God. God’s ultimate plan will result in a new heaven and a new earth.
